We'll be getting started next Tuesday, June 13th and we'll work together through the creation of both versions of the Jackie Dress

This sewalong will be great for you if this is your first time working with knits, if you're just wanting a bit more practice, or if you just want to virtually hang out and sew together. There are lots of great tips to learn!

We'll cover the following topics:

  • Selecting knit fabric and gathering supplies
  • Assembling a PDF pattern
  • Pattern alterations: Full and small bust adjustments, Grading between sizes, lengthening/shortening
  • Cutting and sewing with knit fabric
  • Step by step photo instructions

Tutorials will be published every Tuesday and Thursday. I will guide you step by step through the creation of both versions of the Jackie dress. You'll be able to post comments and questions and I'll be here to guide you and offer advice as you work through the project.

Feel free to share progress photos with us via Instagram or Facebook. At the end of the Sewalong, I'll post the dresses that you'd like me to share and we can celebrate your job well done!

Below you'll find more information about the pattern along with the schedule and content agenda for the sewalong. If you'd like to join in, subscribe here for email updates as the lessons are released. Also, don't forget to pick up the pattern!

THE JACKIE DRESS is an elegant, easy to wear, super comfortable knit dress that slips perfectly from day into night. This style is designed to be easy and quick to make without fussy closures. It features a built up neckline and shapely, figure-flattering seams that lengthen and emphasize your curves. It is fitted at the waist with a full, flowing skirt. A subtle opening at the back upper bodice closes at the neckline with three small buttons and rouleau loop closures. This project uses both a serger and sewing machine. You can also make it with just a sewing machine.

Version 1 has long sleeves with a hemline ending near mid-calf.

Version 2 is sleeveless with a hemline ending just below the knee.

Keep in mind that the dress is made for a height of 5’8” (175 cm) so hemlines may need to be adjusted for height, but it’s better to have more length than less and adjust during a fitting.

We’ll start by gathering everything we need to make the dress. In this post, we will discuss the right kind of fabrics and notions to purchase for the project. We will begin cutting and sewing the fabric in two weeks so you have time to find the perfect fabric.
